Decomposition and Modular Structure of BioPortal Ontologies
We present the first large scale investigation into the modular structure of a substantial collection of state-of-the-art biomedical ontologies, namely those maintained in the NCBO BioPortal repository. Using the notion of Atomic Decomposition, we partition BioPortal ontologies into logically coherent subsets (atoms), which are related to each other by a notion of dependency. We analyze various...
متن کاملLocal Change in Ontologies with Atomic Decomposition
When debugging big ontologies, it can be convenient to isolate the problematic behaviour so that only the relevant part of the ontology will be analysed during the repair. Selecting relevant fragments from an ontology is exactly the subject of study in Ontology Modularisation, while the procedures to make proper changes to parts of logical knowledge bases are the central point of the theory of ...
متن کاملOn an atomic decomposition in Banach spaces
An atomic decomposition is considered in Banach space. A method for constructing an atomic decomposition of Banach space, starting with atomic decomposition of subspaces is presented. Some relations between them are established. The proposed method is used in the study of the frame properties of systems of eigenfunctions and associated functions of discontinuous differential operators.
متن کاملSyntactic Modular Decomposition of Large Ontologies with Relational Database
Support for modularity allows complex ontologies to be separated into smaller pieces (modules) that are easier to maintain and compute. Instead of considering the entire complex ontology, users may bene t more by starting from a problem-speci c set of concepts (signature of problem) from the ontology and exploring its surrounding logical modules. Additionally, an ontology modularization mechani...
متن کاملAxiom Dependency Hypergraphs for Fast Atomic Decomposition of Ontologies
In this paper we use directed hypergraphs to represent the locality-based dependencies between the axioms of an OWL ontology. We define a notion of an axiom dependency hypergraph, where axioms are represented as nodes and dependencies between axioms as hyperedges connecting possibly several nodes with one node. We show that a locality-based module of an ontology corresponds to a connected compo...
